## FAQ
**Why doesn't XenForo do this already?**
Because it reads the date and then ignores it. `XF\Service\Feed\ReaderService`
puts each entry's date into `$entry['date_modified']`, but
`XF\Service\Feed\FeederService::setupThreadCreate()` never passes it to the
thread creator, so `CreatorService::finalSetup()` stamps `time()`.
**Does it change threads that were imported before I installed it?**
No. It only affects entries imported after installation. Existing threads keep
the dates they were created with; nothing is retroactively rewritten.
**I installed it and imported a feed, but the dates are still "now".**
Most likely those entries were already imported and are being skipped as
duplicates. Clear the feed's rows from `xf_feed_log` (and delete the threads they
produced) or point the importer at a feed with fresh entries, then run the job
again.
**The imported threads don't show up in "New posts" / "What's new". Is that a bug?**
No, it is the point of the add-on. A thread dated a week ago genuinely is a week
old, and XenForo's new-content lists are based on date. If you need members to
notice an import, that is a separate problem from the date.
**My forum's "last message" date didn't move. Why?**
It only moves if the imported thread is the newest thread in that forum. A
back-dated thread is usually older than what is already there, so the forum's
last-post data is correctly left alone.
**My feed is Atom. Which field is used, `<published>` or `<updated>`?**
`<updated>`. XenForo's reader exposes Atom's `<updated>` as the entry's modified
date; `<published>` is available separately as the created date and this add-on
does not read it. For news feeds the two are normally the same value.
**What about entries with no date at all?**
They import exactly as before, dated at the import time.
**Do the dates respect timezones?**
Feed dates are converted to UNIX timestamps on import. Each member sees them
rendered in their own timezone, the same way they see any other post date.
**Can I use it on only some feeds?**
Not with this version, and there is no per-feed or per-forum switch. It applies
to every feed the importer processes.
**Will it conflict with other feed add-ons or with a "change post date" add-on?**
It hooks `XF\Service\Feed\FeederService` as a class extension, which is the same
mechanism other add-ons use, so several can coexist. A manual "change post date"
tool is only needed for threads that were already imported, which this add-on
deliberately does not rewrite.
**Does it work with XenForo's other content types?**
No. It is specific to the RSS feed importer that creates threads. Nothing else
in XenForo imports external content with a source date.
**What happens if I uninstall it?**
The class extension is removed and imports revert to stamping the current time.
Threads already imported keep their feed dates, because those are ordinary post
dates stored in the database.
